Looking to photograph cyclists

Hi,

As I'm not only a cyclist but also a photographer I want to add more cycling to my portfolio. I'm looking for 4 - 5 people (men and woman) who'd be interested in some photos that have both a portrait and advertising feel. You'll get a) fun b) free water and c) a nice 11x17 print of your image and did I mention let's have some fun? Would be great if some people would be interested.
The whole thing would be here in Houston and maybe the backcountry.

My website is at www.michaelschulz-photography.com to show you that I know how to hold a camera .

Well I have nothing planned for Austin so far but if I find the right people I wouldn't mind
driving to Austin. It's not that far and oh .. there are hills which I miss here in Houston

The photo of one of the Austin Flyers guys is from a race in May at the Double Lake trails
where I shot for the current issue of Bicycling Magazine (https://www.michaelschulz-photography.com/blog/?p=246)

So I need more portraits and riding shots in my portfolio and I just like it anyway.

I'd be willing to participate in the Dallas area if you are ever up this way.

I was going to suggest that, but sounds like he wants more portrait type, and setup shots (rolling). But yes... photographing the pack in Memorial Park could make for some excellent shots.

I live in Houston and a cyclist, but more like the over 50, clydesdale, cargo shorts wearing on a ss/fixed bike kinda cyclist. Probably not much ad potential there.

sure, but also a pool of 100+ riders who are known to be willing to spend a lot of money on their bike stuff, and who might be interested in portraits of themselves / their teams on the bike... and their team sponsors might like that too.

Kinda my thought as well. I can see a big ad in Bicycling magazine with my picture and "Don't end up like this!" under it.

Or you may be the focal point of the next Dove bar commercials.

I'm thinking for commercial use, you generally need a model release, which makes it awkward to try to use pictures snapped when some random group rides past you.

I'm interested. Heck I'm off 4 days a week and ride most of those. If you don't mind a 52 year old fart give me shout. I ride almost exclusively the North side in the Montgomery, Willis, and Huntsville area. Gotta ride those hills!

Yes, model releases are necessary. I'm not planning on selling these images but as soon as they end up on my website this would qualify as commercial use .

My main reason to do it is because it allows me to combine the two things that I'm passionate about .. cycling and photography and have fun with it.

And if you're 50+ years old it doesn't mean you're not interesting. I'm interested even more because that shows that you can still ride and it's about that, the ride not the "perceived image" of what a rider should look like.

I'm interested, if you want a nearly-30-year-old clydesdale. I'd even throw in a 15-month-old boy that loves his bike helmet and bike trailer.

You sure? You might end up with stuff like this:

This is me half way through Katy Ram Challenge with my then SS only road bike. I rode 108 miles that day when you include the 23 miles to and from Katy Mills Mall and my home near Sharpstown.

This is my bike as it is now. The picture was taken at Terry Hershey Park.

I would be interested. I ride just about anywhere (Bush Park, Memorial Park and out in Ft Bend County). I live in Sugar Land. I am 47 and started riding a year ago after gaining way too much weight from chemo. Have been cancer free for 18 months now.

Oh, I can see a trend here. July 30th I had a TIA and spent 5 days in the V.A. where I found out I have high BP and diabetes. Riding is part of my recovery too.

The Healing Power of Bicycles.

You can shoot pictures of all the old, sick, gimps you want. Tour de Cure is coming up. All the riders with diabetes are supposed to be given red jerseys to wear.

Sure, I'm available for some photos if it helps - but I also belong to the almost-40-non-pro-cyclist-looking category

Thanks Michael,

I had a good time and I must admit, there was a lot more to it than I thought it would be. The weather couldn't have been better and the food you provided was the best ~chuckle~

You guys are first class in my book.

Sarge

P.S. I still say one of your crew members could pass for Lance Armstrong.
