Does anybody have a map showing Old State Highway 20? Or a listing of the FM's and Roads that currently make up what was the route? My birthday is coming up, and would like to do that whole ride my age in miles... and then some. Been messing with the idea of Chappel Hill to Giddings, which would be just under double my age in miles using the back roads not 290.

Clason’s Texas Guide Map 1931

Contact the Bike Texas office in Austin, they have a complete map of the route. Ask for Mark Stine, he has ridden that route many times.

Thanks for all the help y'all. I decided to do a different route for this weekend coming up. I'll attempt a portion of the Old 20 when things get a little cooler.

Funny seeing this mentioned. I just plotted out and rode a route a few days ago that goes over Old Highway 20 for a short stretch just east of Manor. It was good riding.

Great looking route, how was it? It runs right past my subdivision and not too far from where I work on campus at UT! Which side of the loop would you suggest as more commute friendly?

Probably depends on what time of day you ride it, of course. I just rode it again, and I'm riding towards Manor first, then down towards Webberville. I get a little bit of drive-time traffic on 969 heading back into town, but nothing crazy. And there's always some traffic on 973 between Manor and Lake Walter E. Long. Other than that, it's a pleasant ride, and I'm planning on exploring some of the other roads north of Blake Manor Rd. Taylor Rd has kinda nasty pavement; if you ride southbound on it, it's downhill, so at least you get it over with quickly.

Wound up taking a different route for my b-day ride. If you ever find yourself riding near Ledbetter, TX (290 and 1291) hit up the Stuermer General Store. They have gatorades and candy bars in the coolers. Next time I'm going to try one of their sandwiches.
