DFW - racing / considering maybe doing a race this year?

The DFW area will have FOUR weekly weeknight race series in 2011. These are all safe, low-key criteriums, very good places for new racers to get their starts and build experience.

All of these are starting in March (when daylight savings kicks in)

Tuesdays - East Plano / Richardson, 190@ Renner) www.dallascrit.com

Wednesdays - Dallas (Las Colinas, 635@190) https://www.championcoregroup.com/

Wednesdays - Fort Worth (121/35 area) https://www.teambicyclesinc.org/Wednightcrit.htm

Thursdays - Dallas (Fair Park) - https://www.txbra.org/db/events/2011T...CritDallas.pdf

Man, I gotta find a way to talk those Ft Worth dudes into letting me race. Maybe if I promise not to get in the mix until they get used to me......

I did the Turkey Roll up in Denton last fall, and happened to remember that there was a Time Trial run on the hills out by Aubrey. For some reason, I thought of that just now, and it's coming up this weekend:
https://www.txbra.org/db/events/2011HorseCountry.pdf
I won't be out there, as I've got other plans, but I may try that yet. I checked their past results a while back and they pretty much had times from about 28 to 48 minutes or so, and based on other rides, I'd be at the 48-minute level, so I might actually beat somebody.

That's 820/121 area. 820/35 is directly north of downtown; this address is east of downtown.

This one is a great course, proceeds to a good cause - and a special Firefighters / Police / EMT / Public Safety category - if you know someone, pass the word.

My advice: Go to the "Racing" subforum in the Road Cycling, read the stickies.

Yea, what Stephen said... start lurking there, read everything, (apply the internet BS detector liberally)

Also, get to the race early, I like to target at least an hour before start time. Gives you time to register, pin number, warm up. Expect the race to start at super-fast speed for the first 10-15 minutes. Just do whatever it takes to stay in the draft. With the cool weather and light winds today, I expect the C race to stay together in a bunch.

Well I made it, it was cold and windy... and I got dropped. It was a good learning experience though. Next week should be better. I hope at least.

Same bike as my sig.

Bright blue Trek madone, Easton Carbon wheels. I drive a silver jetta with a roof rack.

I will be back next week. It was fun. I just have to keep trying and keep training.

My wife would be interested in racing during the Wednesday night crits in Las Colinas were it not for that lying POS Clarence from Mad Duck being involved. He's such a worthless two-faced lying MFer that we want absolutely nothing to do with his bunch of scammers.

Um...ok...so, don't race.

But as far as I know, Mad Duck is just a sponsor - the organizer is the FCS / Metro VW cycling team, Heath Lambert.
