Riding from Houston Airport (george bush)
 

Any tips on getting from Houston airport (arriving from europe around 1pm) and want to
cycle towards New Waverly to connect to the Southern Tier cycling route

Looks overwhelming on Google maps and I assume all roads are heavy with traffic ??

Any tips on how to ride from the airport appreciated.

I would suggest a cab or an airport limo ( I live near the airport 25 minutes) If you are arriving on a Saturday or Sunday i would be able to assist On a week day i may be able to help if given a date of arrival

Posted speed limits are 80 kph near the airport and 50kph within the terminals . . . . What you don't see, on google maps , is the construction on I-45 and on the frontage roads you need to access northern routes . .If the Southern tier route is on route 105 you really don't want to use that either . . . From New Waverly to FM 2025 near Coldspring it is posted speed is 115 kph with little or no berm and many big trucks. I suggest starting from Coldspring or Shepherd if going East . . . If going West I have no suggestions

Most international flights arrive at terminal D and E. My suggestion to get to New Waverly.
Ask The Parking Spot #2 van if they will let you ride to their location on McKay Blvd. and Will Clayton Parkway. If you don't want to do that or they say no, then walk through the terminal E & C parking garage to Will Clayton Parkway east bound to ride your bike east on Will Clayton Parkway to McKay Blvd. Turn left (north) onto McKay Blvd. Stay on McKay to FM1960. Turn right on FM1960 and go to the northbound service road of US59. Turn left onto the service road and stay on it for about 10 miles until you get to New Caney. Take FM1485 west. FM1485 will turn right at the Valero station but continue straight on FM3083. Stay on FM3083 to Loop 336 north. Stay on 336 until you get to Airport Road. Turn right onto Airport Road which becomes FM1484. Go to FM2432 and turn left and ride to the city Willis. Powell Street should take you to old US75 north. Stay on US75 north to New Waverly. US75 is parallel to I-45.

Getting in at 1pm you should be able to get to 1314 before the traffic gets bad. Sunset is around 5:30 ish. You can travel the 59 feeder road before 3PM without to much trouble. I work at Kingwood dr and 59 and the traffic isn't bad till 3:30 ish
