How are the hills on this course? I ride in generally in flat areas (75-90 mins+, 4-5x per week) and am thinking of making this my first ride with others on public roads. Seems like a very worthwhile cause too.

BTW, I assume my Trek 7.2FX will work OK.....just hope it cools off by then....

There are some hills but it's hardly like riding in the Rocky Mountains, my wife managed to do 44 miles out there in April at another charity ride that runs on basically the same roads, at that point it was the longest she had ever ridden on a bicycle.

Your Trek hybrid should work fine, it's listed as having a triple. Shoot for the 28 mile ride if you are used to doing 75-90 mins, that will be a sufficient challenge for you.

Thanks for the info - was thinking the 28 miler would be a good target to aim for. The extra distance and hills will be more than a sufficient challenge for me!

Well, not a Longhorn fan but I'm officially in now. Looking forward to the social aspect plus some changing scenery....oh, and hopefully, cooler weather that day!

Well, I survived and had a great time (getting up early was the biggest pain!). Very well-organized and the weather worked out perfectly - overcast after a worry about rain. This was my 1st organized bike event and look forward to many more though I may need to get me a road bike....

Did the 28 miles in just over 2 hrs with stops at the 3 rest stations.......some of the hills were rather challenging but managed OK.
