San Antonion Bike Rental and Rides

I am traveling to San Antonio next week and may have an afternoon free to ride. I will be in the area near Ft. Sam Houston.

Can someone direct me to a good shop to rent a road bike from and possibly suggest some modest (25-35 mile) rides?

Thanks,

Mike

BikeWorld (http://bikeworld.com/) is a decent shop that has 3 locations in San Antonio. They do rentals and have quite a few links for local rides on their "Resources" link. If you are looking for relatively flat terrain, look at the rides east of town. If you want more challenging hills, go north or west. I like the area north of town between 281 and I-10 outside of Loop 1604 (Blanco Road/Ammann Road/Bulverde Road area). Not super close to where you are going to be, but close to Bike World location on 1604.

Thanks, txags, I'll check it out.

If you only have an afternoon, and don't mind an urban bike path, the Pearl Brewery location is closest to Ft. Sam. Depending on which gate you're near it can be a near straight shot down to the shop. For open roads and hills you must travel West or North West of town.

Good advice.
Also the creek system trails around 410 and I10.
And McAllister park and the bikeway system.

I mapped out a ride with MMR that starts at Bullis County Park, heads north up Blanco, east on East Amman, south on Bulvedere, to E. Borfeld, to Canyon Golf, to Stone Oak Pkwy to Huebner and back north on Blanco. Sound doable? Anything on there that I should avoid?

Thanks to all of you for your help. I hope I get the chance to ride this.

Well, not exactly near FT Sam.....be real careful on Blanco/Huebner and Stone Oak...lots of traffic. Bulverde area should be quieter but narrow roads.

Stay safe and enjoy!
