Question Daily rides in Dallas ?

I am a re-transplant from Atlanta, where there are weekday rides every day of the week (except Friday), all such rides starting at 6:30PM (give or take bit). I can't find much similar here in Dallas.

There is a drinking club with a bicycle problem like my old group in Georgia, but they ride a 3:00PM ! Even if I can make it in the afternoon I really don't want to start drinking at 5PM.

When I'm working up into shape I prefer to 2-3 20 mile rides during the week, longer on weekends. What are my options here?

P.S. 15-18 MPH average (faster when I lose some weight). I'm in the Vickery Place area - you know, the M streets. It's a straight shot to White Rock Lake, but that can get old after a while.

I live in Houston but I hear Richardson Bike Mart has a number of rides. Also look at the area bike clubs. You can find them on my website Texbiker.net at this link:

The other bike shops in Dallas probably have rides as well. Again you can see a list of the hops at ths link:

Thanks, that's a better list than the one I was using. Here's another club that I found:

https://www.meetup.com/Dallas-Cycling...-Pub-Crawlers/

Yes, I'm familiar with RBM (best bike shop I know of). Almost all of their rides are weekend rides. There is one that pretty much matches what I want, but Richardson is a ways from Mid-town and I was hoping for something closer. I went out to White Rock Lake yesterday after 6:00 and saw a couple of rides pass by despite seeing no Monday evening rides in the schedules I searched. So there may yet be hope!

Thanks for the links.

Dennis

there's a fb group for White Rock roadies:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/293336664039856/
- lots of impromptu rides but you can ask about group rides

There are a few shop rides for roadies that are moderate / low-key. Try Bicycles Plus in Snider Plaza -near SMU - they have a Wednesday moderate / easy ride.

The only weeknight hammerfest I know of is the "Pop" ride that leaves from Richardson - Custer @Renner, NW Corner, roll at 6pm Tu-Thu, about a 35 mile route. It has "A", "B" and "C" pace groups so you can pick your pace, from "race" to "social"

Popsicle - Richardson, Texas

Check out Dallas Bike Works. They know of a lot of local rides.

If you are willing to travel, Ft. Worth's MBBC has several weekday rides. They are a cool bunch, too.

Good info, thanks.

Last time I was out here - about 2008 - there was a bike shop on the Central Expy frontage road just north of Northpark Mall that had some good rides. It no longer seems to be there. I think the shopping center it was in was plowed under in the name of progress. Could that be Bikes Plus now moved?

Sorry, stdlrf11, as good as it sounds Ft. Worth is just too darn far during rush hour. I might get over there some day, though.

There used to be a Performance Bike off Central Expressway @ Walnut Hill, just north of the Mall, but they closed a year or so ago. Their customer service turned horrible, and they were shut down. I've never seen a good shop turn to such crap so quickly.

Look up Greater Dallas Bicyclists and Fort Worth Bicycling Association (FWBA).
I've not ridden with FWBA. They do have some rides over towards the middle of the DFW area, though, so check 'em out.
GDB has rides scattered around, and I've done some of them, with varying results. Some of them suffer greatly from a lack of communication and a lack of information. If you're not one of the Regulars, you just don't matter.

I ran across a group at WRL on Monday, nominally at 6:30, out of Bicycles Plus - the Boathouse Ride? Bunch of skinny hammerheads, but after a couple of weeks I might be able to hang on the back of the B group.

StephenH, thanks, I will. Your experience matches my own (albeit limited). Last time I was here I got on with a RBM Saturday ride. No one spoke to me until en route; there were no maps nor offers of route description. In Southern Bicycle League (SBL) in Atlanta we made a very conscious point of greeting newbies, telling them about the route, and having someone - commonly the club officers - be sure that no one was dropped. Although I have met some very nice people here, I don't see that same ethic.

Dennis

P.S. One thing that really grates is that the web sites of these groups is closed to non-members! I can't ask about a ride unless I pay a fee and join the club. That's not just unfriendly, it's self-defeating!
