Microshift thumb shifters.

8 speed (one model can use friction for the rear)
microSHIFT -The best control system

9 speed (again, friction available)
microSHIFT -The best control system

10 speed I don't see on the site but there are some on eBay. I e-mailed discountbicycle603 (where I've bought before) and they don't have an ETA for the 8 speed. What do you think? I'm thinking of getting the 8 speed model for a mountain bike I want to complete next year.

I thought about using Falcon friction shifters but I think I'll put those on my winter bike. I already received the Rockshox XC30 forks I ordered so maybe it would seem odd to see $10 shifters on a bike with Rockshox XC30 and a mix of Alivio/Deore on it.

I put this in the touring forum because I thought it would be useful for touring. (I have Shimano Ultegra 8 speed bar-end shifters for my touring bike project which is not yet complete. But that has friction shifting as well which I prefer.)

Microshift has been standard equipment on Surly LHT Completes for years now.

Nashbar and Performance also have sold rebranded Microshift brifters for several years.

9 or 10 speed brifters for $104 + tax :

Sun race also makes the nice ones in 8 and 9 speed indexed. Just ordered a set. Front is friction, way cheaper than price at rivbike. 19.00/side. 48.00 total with 3 day shipping. We'll see. I hope they work. Never did figure out why the market went with the lame grip shift and trigger shift.
