Shaved legs?

Do you shave your legs as a non-racer type? I find it more comfortable.

If you prefer to, there's nothing wrong with that, just as there's nothing wrong with not shaving. It's simply a question of personal preference.

OTOH - if anyone feels pressure to do so and is shaving legs only in search of a practical advantage, they shouldn't feel that way.

It's also a lot easier to apply sunscreen to your legs...

About the only time I shave my legs on tour is if I'm going to be spending some time at the beach.

Shaved legs can feel faster & looks better on selfies eh? Disposable razor weighs very little. One time while attending bike World Champs an oldster at the hostel fussed at me for eating pizza & Coke (colas are heavily acidic). Later I went on a training ride w/freshly shaved legs the day after drinking a couple of Pepsis. When I started to sweat I immediately felt a stinging sensation on the legs--acidified sweat from the cola drinks. Did some experimenting & I found that the day after drinking colas my skin would itch for a couple of minutes after a shower. So there's at least an indirect benefit there from shaving.

Yes it is easier and quicker without all the leg hair, plus it will cut down on amount of sunblock required by about 1/3. A bottle of sunblock can cost >$10 and last only two weeks applied daily to legs/arms. Shaving legs saves a little money if you require sunblock.

Back at home, society sort of expects me to shave my legs when I wear a skirt to work or when I dress up for the symphony.

In general most folks are less likely to shave legs when on tour than at home. This includes both men and women. I consider it a purely personal preference kind of choice. If you like the look or feel of it or think it is worth doing to facilitate massage or road rash cleanup, then there is nothing wrong with it, but you most likely will be in the minority if you do.

People bring a razor on tour? Interesting. But they weigh so much. Never shaved my legs, ever. Hair is great for bug detection.

I shave my legs when I tour. Before and during. If you keep up with things it takes only a few extra minutes in the shower to go over your legs with a disposable razor. I can clean up my legs faster than I can clean up my face.

I have woodland creatures living in my leg hair. There is likely a fine or some penalty for disturbing them. Not gonna do it.

Don't carry a razor on tour...why would you? I'm not out on tour searching for a hot date. I don't use suntan lotion on any part of my body, don't carry any with me. The only time I regretted it this summer was the one day I took the jersey off and exposed my unsuntanned back to the sun all day long and got nailed real good. My arms, legs, neck or face never did anything but tan up more. Never burnt once. Get out in the sun before you leave and then you can leave the carcinogenic crap at home and enjoy the sun without the worry of the sunburn or the cancer that comes from the crap they put in the lotions.

But there is the skin cancer issue from too many UVs.

as a Canadian eh, I can tell ya's all that having good leg hair gives you a little heads up when a skeeter lands on your leg, gives you a few seconds to smite the little bug ger.

happy thanksgivings to you Americans.
