Photos from cycling trips

Hello.

If anyone is interested in photography on cycling trips, you can see few here:

photography by Fridjon | the road less travelled

I sometimes travel with a large camera (Hasselblad) when touring. Probably not the only one! Has anyone used the Ortlieb Trunk bag for (large) cameras?

Mérci.

I used the ortlieb handlebar bag with camera insert on my last trip to lug around my canon sx60. Not a fancy dslr, but for a bridge camera you pretty much can't beat the zoom capabilities. Anyway it's a good size little camera and the handlebar bag in large fits perfect, along with room for backup batteries and my wallet and keys etc. very convenient for pulling over and grabbing the camera for that quick shot.

I use my smart phone, an HTC One M7. I'm interested in buying a phone with a superior camera, or finding a small, light camera that I could bring touring. Any suggestions?

Sony Xperia Z5 compact, 23mp camera, that takes the best photos I have ever seen from a phone, even better photos than my compact digital camera, it weighs next to nothing, and has awesome battery life

I prefer carrying my camera in a handlebar bag where it’s faster to grab and I think it takes less jarring on the bike, particularly on bumpy roads. I’ve tried carrying an SLR in a trunk bag and was constantly nervous that it was getting beaten up when bounced around. Currently, I prefer an Olympus E-M5 Micro 4/3 Compact System Camera with their Pro series lens – very durable and water resistant and is the size of a smaller DSLR. Plus, I always carry a little Sony WX350 that goes everywhere with me. Sure, I have a smartphone but, not for real photos.

Handlebar bags: Topeak offers 3 sizes of fully padded bags of which I have two models and recommend them to cyclists for their photo gear. I have the “Compact” model when just carrying a smaller camera and the TourGuide (mid-size) for carrying the E-M5. They also have a larger TourGuide DX model that would fit your Hasselblad and at least a normal lens. Personally, I wouldn’t be comfortable carrying a Hasselblad and more than one medium format lens in a handlebar bag due to the value and weight so might have to carry the spare lenses and gear in a rear bag. Unfortunately, no camera bag manufacturers make a handlebar bag. I've also used a Lowepro sling pack for mountain biking with camera gear.

Thanks for sharing Fridjon, I like your perspective and the use of B&W.

I shoot video using a Gopro on a stick, which allows me to get some different angles. I also use a P&S Sony but am upgrading to an Olympus with more mp and durability for the road.
