*also biketouringhobo seems to get a lot of flack for his postings of late and I gotta say it's kinda rude. I know there's a search function blah blah blah, but damn. If someone started a conversation with you on the street would you treat them that way? The mans dealing with a lot of issues and doing quite well it seems to me. Someone reaches out for community and you **** on them. The man is just making conversation, nobodies forcing you to respond. And besides, looking back at a lot of his posts end up becoming multiple page threads.

sorry for the rant.
Thanks

What would be interesting is if the Mods had some balls and threw the people who were really trolling this thread off the site.

In my eyes, a troll is someone who enters other peoples threads to post disparaging, inflammatory or divisive remarks designed to provoke a reaction. From what I've seen of BTH, he pretty well behaves himself in other peoples threads. In his own threads, the same predictable people troll him precisely because they know they will provoke a certain response. Predictable because we know he has a mental illness and reacts the same way each time. Gee Whiz, he feels a little persecuted. Perhaps defensiveness is part of that and perhaps it's because in some ways, he actually is being persecuted because he creates posts not of some peoples liking. Why people get their kicks from baiting a mentally ill person I don't know but it's bullying regardless.

Alloy spoke nipples and titanium sporks aside, along with all the other stuff that really doesn't matter on a tour - I'd rather take the time to try and get along with a marginalized poster than chum it up with a sarcastic bully - both on the net and IRL. There are sheep, wolves and sheepdogs in this world and it's pretty easy to see what roles are being assumed by who here. If I'm wrong and he is pulling the wool over my eyes all I'm guilty of is having a little character. If he isn't, some others are guilty of having none. I know which I prefer.

Anyway that's all I have to say on the subject.
I wasn't being mean. My original post clearly reflects that unless you take anything that isn't overly cheery and positive and perfect to be mean or negative.

I am not saying anything about wasted time more about wasted space. Trying to go through a lot of posts and many of them are by the same person about basically the same thing makes forum enjoyment and posting a bit harder.

If I were posting as BTH was posting and people said hey maybe post less or create one thread to ask all your questions in, I would have no issue with it. I would happily have it done onto me because I wasn't being a jerk about it.

Nobody is trolling you! I am suggesting that rather than post a new thread with the same basic information over and over just create a single thread for your postings or on the flip side post less. In the specific case of this post we had already answered you in the previous post that you made about the almost exact same situation in which we tried to help you but you didn't really seem to want our advice. This isn't based in hate or dislike of you as a person and should not be taken that way.

Great for you!!!

I work at an online retailer from October to December doing the Christmas rush thing. One overtime day is more than a week at the fast food joints around here. Got laid off last week, but am good to go until April or May. But, I have a crappy job starting mid Jan and will have a bonus!!!

It's all just a waiting game until 2/17 (13 months, eight days).....retirement check comes and the western state lines between here and the Four Corners area will be my birthday present to myself.

Already set with great gear.....just holding out for sustainment funds.

Hi Tim- I think we would all be interested in hearing the full story of how you became Homeless By Choice Since 3-1998. Of course it would be off topic for the "Touring" subforum, but there is a subforum called "Foo" where it would be appropriate and appreciated. In addition, I think you should consider starting a sort of daily blog in "Foo" that would keep us updated on the trials and triumphs you experience in your unique lifestyle. Merry Christmas and look forward to hearing from you soon in "Foo!"

I believe you meant to say not the same however while not word for word the same it was the same topic about the same pads and nothing will have changed. I want to help you and I am sure others do as well but you just have to relax with the posting especially with double posting about the same topic.

Biketouringhobo, I recently read that with regards searching for leaks in sleeping mats, a bath filled with hot(ish) water was superior to cold.
Not too hot to put your hands in, merely warmer than warm.
I got no bath tube!

my mom is sending me $250.00 on 2/29/2015 to get New ThermaRest Trail Pro Sleeping pad from REI

good thing I still have my 7-2008 ThermaRest Trail Pro Sleeping pad that got a pin hole made by a puppy dog on 12-2008 and I had to patch it up with Gorilla Super glue and Gorilla Duct tape near the valve and I used 1,000 mph olive duct tape still holds air for 5days
Is there any reason to NOT use a non-inflatable closed cell (ie. Ensolite) foam sleeping pad? With one of those there's no way it'll go flat. BTW, they also insulate better on cold ground.

Cheers

why not?

could you cut the closed cell foam pad to fit the sleeping pad sleeve?
or simply lay out the bag on top of the pad?

The age old dilemma on BF. If you post something.....you should have done a search.--------------------
If you do a search and respond for details you get shat on for bringing up a zombie thread.

There is not one thing that you can post or a single way to do anything that someone will not just move on, but see the need to throw their useless thoughts into the thread.

Expected in the 41, not so much here. Nothing to add...move on. All you have to do is nothing.

That said.

I have a similar Big Agnes bag. I use a Thermarest "light pro something" pad that's got the tapered shape. No problems. I had a roll of Reflectix laying around so I cut a chunk to fit the sleeve in the BA bag. It doesn't weigh enough to care about and adds a bit of about 3.5r insulation to the package. We're just now getting out of our record high temps for December so I can't really swear that it's the icing on the cake...or bag as it may be.
