Golden Triangle
We are planning to cycle the Golden Triangle in British Columbia this summer.
I would like to hear any reports of previous trips. We are likely going to start
from Lake Louise. I am curious if anyone prefers going counter clockwise to Golden
then Radium Hot Springs,and back to Lake Louise or clockwise to Radium first and then
to Golden which finishes on Hwy 1 to Lake Louise, which is likely the least attractive stage.
Grades are of interest of course but more importantly which direction does the wind usually
come from. Let us know what your thoughts.

The "Standard" way is Castle Junction-Radium-Golden-Castle Junction.
I don't know why, except maybe tradition- the first EVCC GT went that way back in the old days (1984).
Winds are generally West to East but the mountains can funnel and twist them every which way. Needless to say they always blow against me.
The steepest grades are the Kicking Horse canyon and the Kicking Horse Pass on the segment between Golden and Lake Louise. These are busy roads and I would just as soon climb them as descend. I don't know exactly what the grades are, but they are not super steep. I would guess 8-10%.
If you are starting at Lake Louise and going clockwise you will finish with a slight downhill from Kicking Horse pass, and hopefully a tailwind.
Going the other way you will have a slight uphill and probably a headwind.
Either way its a good ride.

Thanks for that. Is Castle Junction at the intersection of Hwy 1 and Hwy 93?
Is there any accommodation there to start and finish from.
Is each leg in the 90 - 100 km range?

I don't know exactly but around 100k sounds right to me. Its not especially difficult, if you're used to hills.
