Luke, I am your father?

dumb joke aside, sorry no luck with me. Dont know anyone who did a trip into Russia then. I did know a guy who did a Russia trip around then or maybe before actually, but he is neither a Pierre or a Steve.
good luck

No problem. I used to hang out with Steve's brother in high school, long before I toured anywhere. I already had some interest from seeing cycle tourists during family travel. I probably told my friend who then told me about Steve and Pierre. I didn't even know my friend had a brother before that. Small world.

Yeah, what he said.

So much for 6 degrees of separation...nowadays it's only 2.

Also in awe.

Sorry about what may look like nitpicking, but the "six-degrees-of-separation" idea meant that we are all connected to each other and that the average degree of separation was estimated to be 6 at the beginning of the century. It meant that had you left a letter addressed to anyone in the world, on a park bench in Central Park, it would need to (optimally) travel between 5 people to reach its final destination. Which does not mean that it would require only 5 iterations -- it might have taken quite a bit of effort to move to the next optimally connected person.

In a perfectly connected world, there would be zero separation. Interestingly, when I google "Peter Steeve (notice the spelling) Russia" the first hit returns their blog. (and the second hit is this very thread).

According to the Wikipedia entry, the average separation between randomly selected Twittter users is less than 4 and it takes surprisingly few random iterations to traverse the network.

I'm amazed too. Damn. When I read the first post, I was all "you want to find a couple dudes who bike toured Russia in 94? Good luck..." and the second person to respond knows them? What? Crazy.

Maybe more adopted people looking for their parents should start using bikeforums as a resource.

Those who dont want to be found shouldnt keep an extensive blog detailing their life.
Pretty easy to discern these people dont apply to your comment.
