I grew up in Midland. Hopefully they do the White Pine as nice as they did the Pere Marquette, it truly is a cycling gem!

Never knew they intersected tho, may have to do a Midland - GR ride someday!

Winter is not bad, we just use studded tires on the bike, put the golf clubs away for a few weeks and go skiing.

Highly exaggerated. Our seasons fall almost exactly on the lunar calendar. Winter starts in mid December and ends in mid March. The rest of the year temps range from the 50's to 70's with a few hot weeks in July or August.

Nice write up! I love the water and woods of Michigan. I have cycled to and from my cottage on Mullett Lake in northern Michigan to Columbus 5 times. Each time I go a different way and have camped at those wonderful state and national forest campgrounds you mention as well as the public recreation area campgrounds. I will check out the White Pine trail.

I should have put a JK after my post, I know it's not that bad, excepting the tall stories a colleague from Ann Arbor liked to tell us.

I did some road rides in the Muskogen and Escanaba areas while driving thru a few years back. Empty roads, lots of trees, my kind of cycling.
