Frame Bags?

A customer of ours is looking to tour utilizing Amtrack to get him between the huge cities.

The question is has anyone used different soft frame bags and then rolled or folded them up and strapped them to their bikes?

If so which one, and what was your opinon??

Thanks!
Arleigh

The frame bag is a waste ,since bicycles on Amtrak must be in Amtrak's generously sized bike box or in a hardshell case.
Also with Amtrak's new baggage regulations a frame bag would easily exceed the maximum carry-on size now allowed on Amtrak Trains so you would still have to take trains with either baggage cars or bike racks

sorry for the bad news. Here is a link to Amtrak's bicycle and baggage policies. Maybe sell your client a folding bike?

About the bag, along time ago I dated a young lady who's father was a tailor. He sewed me up a bike bag that I took over to the Far East, HK, Philippines and Vietnam. The bag worked real well, no damage to the bike ever, it was easier to handle than a big box and like you mentioned it rooled up and I was able to strap it on my bike. It took a total of 8 flights with no problems. Of course like and idiot I threw the thing away when I got home. I still think of it, and the young lady, often.
