Kona Sutra- Disc brakes and a rack?

Does anyone have any experience with the Kona Sutra? As it only has mounts for disc brakes, woundn't mounting a rack be rather difficult? Do you need a special rack? Thanks.

Try Old Man Mountain racks. It uses a skewer mount....

I just bought a Sutra. The rack mounts are on the seat stay, in front of the brake tabs. It puts the rack rather high, and not as far back as I would like. I'm currently using a Blackburn rack. Time to shop for something that fits a little better.

What kind of rack do you think would fit better? Something with shorter legs? I'm looking at putting a Jannd rack on mine. What do you think about this? Thanks.

I’m considering the Delta Megarack XL. It has a height of 12.5 inches, which helps with the height of the eyelets, and sets the deck back 2 inches. That helps with the forward location of the eyelets. I would rather have something with more structure to keep panniers from getting into the wheel. If you try fitting this rack or any others on a Sutra I’d like to hear about it. I am in Germany and do much of my shopping online, so recommendations pro and con can save me from making costly mistakes. Here is a link to Delta

I wonder if the Sutra was designed to use racks that were made for 26" inch wheels due to the higher rack eyelets. I wrote to Kona a while back and asked about which racks would fit. Here's what they said:

If you're in Europe I'm sure you can cross a border
or two, and find a shop
dedicated to touring that has a good selection of
racks.I think you'll see
more selection in Europe vs. North America. Touring
bikes like this are
still in a tiny niche.

If I had to dash of a name you could pass on, and
the local bike shop would
most likely know it would be Blackburn.

So the guy at Kona tech recomended a Blackburn. Perhaps you could write to Kona tech and explain your problem. Their address is tech@konaworld.com

If you do contact them please let us know what they said.

Sag which of the Tubus racks are you using? They do look good, and they are sort of local. I haven’t found a shop that carries them yet.

Ziemas could you post a close-up of your rack mounting. Do you have the drops all the way back? That seems to give you more room to work with.

As far as using a skewer mount rack, like the oldmanmountain, I don’t think any would work with the way the adjustable dropouts are bolted on.

I just moved my Tubus Cargo from my Gunnar onto my new Sutra. It fits well (no problems with the disc caliper), though distance between the dropouts is greater, and the Tubus is now spread a little. But the rack was much easier to handle than getting a new pair of ESGE fenders onto the Sutra. I had to use a small reflector bracket to provide mounting point above the front disc caliper on the left fork blade, and wire tire the left side in back to the Tubus.

I notice some rust, peering up inside the rack's legs. I see the Tubus website claims that their steel is unlikely to suffer from severe rust - should I be worried?
