western burbs(winfield) to chicago route
Anybody else out ther have experience in cycling to chicago from out here? Any other tested routes.
I chose early Sunday 0700, minimal road traffic, minimal pedstrian presence in urban area.
The route: Geneva Rd to St Charles Rd meeting Lake St in (Melrose Park); Lake to Oak Park Ave North to North Ave on in. Took train back, allowing for adequate entertain and refreshmant on arrival.
No one showed much interest in me except for a couple drunks at Kostner who were too far gone to provide any threat.

Ogden. I rode Ogden all the way from Downers Grove to Chicago downtown. The only problem with the Ogden route is that there are no streetlights on a stretch of the road which is pretty devoid of shops, houses, etc. It's pitch dark and dangerous to do at night.
I've also taken Roosevelt Road from the west side. It's not too shabby either.

Yeah, but the folks on Ogden heading in from the west suburbs are very nice. I've only done them on the weekends... I don't know about the weekdays, but it can't be any worse than heading north or south in urban traffic.
