where to lift a loaded bike

hey all,
i did a forum search and didn't find much about this, but was wondering where y'all recommend picking up a loaded bike to, say, put it on a curb or something. by the back of the saddle? by the frame near where the seatstays hit the top tube? where is the most recommended?
thanks
biki

I usually grab the handlebar and the seatpost, just below the saddle. I try not to grab the saddle since it's a good strong component in compression but not in tension. I also find that grabbing the top tube is akward, the balance just isn't right. It may be different on other bikes however.

I mountain bike tour on some trails that require picking up and over steps and what not. I either use the under side of the saddle or the end of the rear rack.

One hand around the steerer tube, up against the stem, and the other around the seatpost, up against the saddle rails.

Grab and lift where it's most comfortable for you. Your bike is not THAT fragile....

for clarification, i was talking about when its LOADED. when the fu55er is unloaded, i can throw it on my back no problem, pick it up by toptube, etc. i mean, when it has pounds and pounds of gear on it.

I reach down on the seat tube, below the top tube, just above the water bottle, with my right hand. My left is on the handle bar. I lift with my back, not my right bicep. The lower you can grap with the right hand, the better is it to lift the 100 pounds or so.

I lift by the rack, only because it seems to be easier lifting farther towards the back where the weight is centered.
