What type of steel for touring

What steel tubing would be best for touring? I've seen bikes with 531 and 4130.
I'm considering a LHT frameset which is 4130 and I want to make sure that that type of
steel is up to the challenge!
Also, can anyone recommend a frameset (built around 26' wheels) that offers everything the LHT does?

Many thanks!

Depending on size, Surly produces the LHT with 26" wheels.

I am building a touring bicycle using the Gunnar Rock Tour frame. I chose this frame for two reasons. It has a sloping top tube (my inseam is shorter than my torso) and is built with 853 steel. I certainly would have been happy with the Surly if the geometry would have suited my body proportions.

Of all the bikes I have had, and the ones I have read about for high quality framing....True Temper seems to be up there.

I wouldn't worry about the tubing. Get the fit & geometry right - let the maker determine the tubing.
