Staying Warm in the Winter....
I am not one to ware jerseys or bike shorts or look flashy. I went out the other day and bought some leg warmers... THEY SUCK... they fall off my thighs after a half a mile of riding. I am about to go get some full fleece tights but I wanted to see what the rest of the bagging community does.
Cheers,
Coco

hello
Leg or knee warmers usually stay secured when worn under biking shorts.
I love my DeFeet knee warmers. Compared to other brands I've tried in the past, these do not sag even after a couple of hours of continuous pedalling.

I put my Pearl Izumi leg warmers on backwards so they won't fall down. Kind of gives a bellbottom look!

Wool leg warmers & windstopper tights when cooler. At 32F (this morning) I also had a pair of old & rather thin polypropoline long johns under it all.

Sorry, no help from me. My leg warmers stay up fine for as long as I want to ride. It may be because my legs are pretty big so I fill them out too well. I put the upper part of the leg warmers under my tight bike shorts.
But, my main riding buddy is 6'5" and 190 pounds (therefore, skinny legs) and he has trouble keeping his up so he uses safety pins and pins his shorts to his leg warmers. Kind of strange but it works for him.
Basically, I think if they don't stay up then that probably means they are too big for you and you need a smaller size.

If you dont need the take-offability of legwarmers, then full tights are much more secure and comnfortable. Use unpadded ones over bike shorts. They come in various degrees of winprofing and insulation; more is not always better it depends on your local conditions.

I think some of you must be buying leg warmers in the "jumbo" size. I got smalls or mediums or something and they fit just fine. The only time they fall down is if I slide them down past my knees as I warm up. I can wear them over or under my shorts, it doesn't make any difference ... they stay up.
For colder temps though, tights are better. They provide an extra layer over the shorts. In fact, on quite chilly days I will wear shorts, tights, and then sweat pants over top of it all ... and on really cool days I might add windpants too.
Oh ... and ... I'm with Satyr and the more leg hair thing!!

I have been using Pearl Izumi "microfleece tights" and they work very well. You might want to look at some of the Marmot brand jackets for layering garments. I use the Marmot wind shirt jacket....it is good to about freezing temps...and if it gets worse....put on a goretex outerwear jacket.

Buy military surplus. They make excellent cold weather clothing. Fleece pants and shirts, parkas if its really cold, awesome long johns. and on top of ot all, they are very durable and can be worn for long periods of time without washing...bonus. I am a fan of military surplus because its very durable very versitile and very cheap if you go to the right place.
