Rack with P-clips

How strong are racks with p-clips? This is the setup I'm currently running on an old Trek 1400 road bike. It is a full aluminum frame. I am using it for commuting to work and school and weekend rides with the wife. I'm currently using an Arkel Bug to lug my stuff around and seems to handle the weight just fine. I'm usually between 10 and 15 lbs when going to school.

I'm currently thinking about some light credit-card touring (thats all I can convince the wife into) and was hoping to get by without buying a new bike. Think it will work okay? I don't think we'll be carrying much more than clothes, tools, snack food and maybe a lunch, camera, and other misc. items.

Thanks for any advice.

Tim

I do not use P-clips below near the drop outs, but rather a problem solvers disc insert that functions like a rack eyelet. I use clips above on the seat stays, but they really do not support any weight, so there are really no concerns.

My P-clips are only at the top as well. I have eyelets on the dropouts. So I should be okay as they do not support much weight at the top. Thanks.
