Mohican State Park Ohio
I had a nice trip this past weekend up to Mohican from Columbus. The last 20 miles kinda kicked my butt on the way there because I wasn't expecting it to be as hilly as it was. All in all though it was a really nice winter trip. 72 miles driveway to park. Just thought I'd share some photos.

Bet the camping wasn't crowded.Mohican is a nice area. I'd like to make that ride sometime but I doubt I'll try it in Jan.!Heck,we're lucky we can ride at all this time of year. It's been an easy winter so far.Do you venture out on winter tours often or was it a "seize the moment" kinda thing?

This was more of a seize the moment kind of thing. I've never done a winter tour before but I've done some winter backpacking so I wasn't too worried about the cold. I found that I was unprepared for how cold my feet would get with cleats on though. I found that stopping a few times to warm up my feet solved the problem and then upon arrival I was able to get my feet warm in my tent after a few minutes in the bag, then I was able to enjoy the brisk winter hiking.
I commute about 16 miles daily in rain, sleet, ice, snow, and on happier days sunshine I'm inspired by my friends back in Chicago who commute all winter - I wasn't willing to do that back in my days in Chicago.
Anyhow, I'd really recommend this trip. I'm really not into camping in crowded campsites so the winter is the perfect time for me to do stuff like this. During the summer I head to places that are less inhabited, often up in Canada.

Amen on"The road less travelled".I've only been riding seriouly for about a year and seem to be wandering further from home all the time.Haven't taken an actual tour yet but am prepping to commute 1or2 days a week 20miles to work come spring.I would be game to commute in the winter but my wife about has a fit when i ride in good weather. On the weekends I like to just take off and see what's down the road.Sooner or later i'll just have try overnight trips.I hate to travel by car but can't get enough of this bike stuff

Heh, my wife isn't too excited by my bicycling either. She was freaked out about me doing this trip in the middle of winter. She knows that, of all the things I could be doing, this is a pretty mild thing so she lets me have it. I'm slowly but surely trying to get her to use her bicycle more as well. She is at least making some short trips to the store and library on her bike now so that's a start.

Nice. Sounds like a great weekend.
I grew up in NE Ohio, and we would get to Mohican every other summer. Camping, tubing in the river, hiking.
Always thought it would be a great bike trip!

We used to take canoe trips down the river when I was a teen.Ended up usually in some sort of mini naval battle.15 teenagers trying to drown one another all in the name of fun!
