For a few years my wife and I rented a place every summer near Lunenburg NS. One year (1999?) I ran across this group having thier annual rally. It wasn't huge, probaly less than 100 riders but it seemed well organized and thier rides looked interesting.

I was just looking at thier Cape Breton Tour package. they are charging $506 (usd) to tranport your baggage, give you a map, and furnish a campsite for 7 days. I have
never traveled with a tour company but $70 a day seems a bit much for what you are getting.

Thanks. My girlfriend and I are thiking about going there for a long weekend or something like that. She doesn't ride so I was even thinking about driving the area. Is it as gorgeous as it looks? I have also heard that the people are quite friendly. I am a very outgoing guy and like to mingle with the locals when I travel.

Well, if you're in Nova Scotia then it's just as well you come to Newfoundland. I mean, it's beautiful in Newfoundland, and the people are pretty darn nice. Visit Newfoundland, 'it's a different world right next door'

I did the Atlantic Canada Bicycle Rally years ago. It was a great event. Well run. Not the biggest but lots of fun.

Don't be supprised if you go on a ride to the beach to go swimming when boys and girls strip down to nothing in plain view to change into their bathing suits.

Nova Scotia is truly beautiful, I like wood boats and old fishing villages . so I usually hang around Lunenburg Lunenburg is southwest of Halifax on the map. Cape Breton on the northern tip of Nova Scotia is magnificent. Lots of postcard sea villages and light houses from Peggy's cove to Clark's Harbor.
If you take your own car it is a long drive and/or an expensive ferry trip. It won't leave much time for exploring, From NYC roundtrip airfare is about $260 and car rentals are about $ 30 (USD)a day for a Toyota Corolla.
If you like to hang with locals it is best to come around the off season. from mid-June till the 3rd week of August Nova Scotia is pretty much overrun by American tourists and the locals are either catering to or avoiding them. I like to go the 2 weeks after Labor day.

Thanks for all the info folks. I am actually planning on making this trip form Burlington ON (near Toronto) since my girlfriend is Canadian and I plan on moving there. My next question was what the best time to visit would be. Thanks for the answer.

Anymore info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Brian:

Yes, it's a great place to tour by bike or by car. And the people are "down-home" friendly. The Cabot Trail is awsome, but has some very long steep grades, no shoulders. Speed limits are low, so traffic was not a problem tho there was lots of it in July. When I was there the fog obscured the views, tho I could see that the potential was there. My favorite place was Baddeck in the center of Cape Breton - there's a great museum there focusing on Alexandre Graham Bell (telephone inventor). He lived near Baddeck.

But if you're driving all the way from Ontario during a long weekend, not sure you'll have much time for biking - you need 2 days at least (best to take 3 or 4 days) just for the Cablot Trail.

Sorry, I can't give any suggestions for the south as I just toured around the north after coming off the ferry from Prince Ed. Is.

LMAO..spoken like a true newfie haha. ive got 2 guys from nfl stayin here right now workin on the rigs. and they just had thier families up, so we had 15 people in my house, all talkin with that super sweet newfie accent. it was rockin.
