rivendell bags and brake cable rub

i did my last tour with a little joe bag riding the handlebars, and an adam bag hanging off of the saddle.

when running cantilever brakes, i sometimes have issues with the bags pressing against the cable and causing me to lose my lovely brake pad alignment. any suggestions? i'm guessing that the thing to do is rig up something to keep the bag away from the cable.

also, i think this is a problem that especially applies to taller bikes. maybe some of the short people won't know of what i speak.

This would be a question better asked on the RBW listserv, at bikelist.org

IMO, racks and saddlebag lifts are the best, if expensive, solution.
