Another rim question...26"

Ok, sorry another wheelset question.

I am building up a commuter/daytripper/touring rocket and am trying to select one of 2 or 3 rims. The bike will have disc brakes and I would prefer a disc only rim, really only for appearance. My choices are Mavics: xc717(preferred); xm719 and ex721(not likely as it is too wide). I will be running Specialized 26x1.5 tires most of the time with possibly a Marathon XR's some of the time. They will be built with XT hubs and 36 spokes, AlpineIII's if I can get them. I have considered Velocity rims but nobody around here carries them.

Is the 717 too light for loaded touring? Searching the posts gives me lots of mtn bikers that say it is a great rim for cross country and small jumps. Would that not be more punishing than touring? It would be a fine rim for commuting and daytripping but I cant find too many references to touring.

The load between me and my gear shouldnt be more than about 185lbs (135 + 50).

Thx.
