Trek 520 rack eyelets?

I finally got a front rack for my trek 520 (2004), a tubus tara.
However, the top eyelets for the rack seems too big. the screws i got were M5-20 and seems to just slip throught. It would need a screw thats at least 1 mm thicker to actually screw in?
Any solutions? Is this a defect or just the wrong part? A thicker screw doesn't seem like it would fit.

The new (maybe always?) Trek 520 forks have unthreaded mid fork eyelets, no M5 screw is going to engage, there's no threads in the the fork. You need to thrubolt that one.

Head on down to the hardware store. I think 1 1/2" is too short, the 2"s are a little long, but you can trim them with a bolt cutter.
