Wider Bars for Touring??? 44 to 46

I have given thought to changing my bars on my touring bike for 46cm vs the 44cm that are on there now. Researching it, you would be surprised at how few companies make 46 cm bars now. I had to change over to a lower cost (not necesarily bad) pair of Bontragers (ergonomic design) or pick up some Nitto's.

I haven't tackled this yet and thought some input from the experts might be in order.

Check out Rivendell's site for a good selection on bars. I ride the Nitto "Noodle" bar and they are great. Rivendell sells them up to 48cm.

I got the 48 Nitto Noodle from Rivendell -- love it !! Highly recommend going wide -- 44, 46 or even 48. Salsa makes some bars in 46 -- their Pro Road for one.

Beckman has drops as wide as 60, custom. Makes one wonder what one is missing. I started a thread on making them on the frame forum, but it didn't get too far. I would need to buy new tooling for my bender.

I have a Nitto Noodle in a 48 on my Cross-Check. I was actually looking for a randonneur style bar but my LBS mech talked me into trying the noodle. I like it, lots of room. Probably not the bar with the most aero riding position out there, but I'm not so aero myself.

Trust me, I wouldn't be surprised.

Besides Nittos from Rivendell, you might check out Salsa bars. I use 46cm Moto Ace Bell Lap cyclocross bars on my LHT.
