1985 Trek 520

Does anyone think that this Trek 520 on Ebay should be rescued by myself?
It would involve an 8 hour drive and about $80 in fuel.

Almost $200 once you calculate the gas for a 520 old enough to drink? I wouldn't do it. Now if it were a 720 or maybe even a 620, I'd jump on it.

The bike will probably sell for $500 or more when the bidding ends, though the seller severely limited his market by not agreeing to ship the bike, so I could be wrong.

The 520 is the 520. They still make it. You could run it as is, or fit it with new shifters. Since it has the older, threaded stem it is much easier to fit than the newer threadless headset on a bike that is not quite your size.

What is it worth to you?

That's what I was thinking. The bike would make a good second bike for me, but since he won't ship, I'm not willing to place a bid.

My thoughts exactly on the Trek making a great backup bike. Shipping would have made the bike more appealing to bidders. I knew that by posting on this forum, more interested people would become aware of the 520.

Monoborracho, I am not sure if the bike is worth half a grand to me, but would love to a have butted frame again. My main reason for posting was to see what other BF members thought of this era of 520 and its worth.

I have a 1988 520 that is in great condition. I've thought about bringing up tp current spec, but it costs too much. So for now I'm leaving it as is. The 520s of that era are excellent bikes.
