Northern Tier latest start date?

A last minute window of time may be opening up for a friend, northern tier west to east, what would be the latest safe / realistic start date? Oh, and he wants to continue on down the coast to North Carolina. Fully loaded 55 miles a day, 300-350 mile average weeks. What do you think? For me the latest ime to leave would be in 15 minutes.

It'd say July would be ok. I'd want to be done by the begining of October.
He will need to prepare for weird weather. In July and August the plains will be very hot and you can have winds go either way. I've had some 20+ MPH tailwinds propelling me to 100mi days and today I have the hardest 60mi of my life with strong headwinds. With warmer weather, I dunno if I'd have made it.

If you combine the Northern Tier with the Trans Am using the Great Parks - i.e. connect Glacier, Yellowstone, Rocky Mountain National Parks - you can leave as late as August 1-15 - then continue east further south and reach the North Carolina coast by early November. The days will be shorter - you might have to get a motel room once or twice more often - but you'll have great late summer/early fall colors in the Rockies - nice weather across the plains - and beautiful fall colors in the Appalachians.
