Road or MTB shoes/pedals
Do you prefer road shoes/pedals or MTB shoes/pedals?. Which do you find more comfortable? Which do you prefer while touring and why?

Shimano sandals w/ mtb cleats. I don't take any other shoes. Ride across the country, hike 10 miles, wear neoprene socks if it's raining... they do it all.

Definitely mountain bike shoes! I've done some fairly lengthy hikes in mine and they are very comfortable.

I used Shimano spd-sl (similar to Look) on my road bike when I did a supported tour this year. The off-the-bike walking just ate up my cleats. I plan on using my mountain bike shoes and the spd cleats for all future tours.

Definitely mountain. I use Crank Brothers Candy pedals myself. Road pedals like the ones by Look are much harder to get in and out of and would be a nightmare on a fully loaded bike. And the shoes are practically impossible to walk in...

I've always used something like this for the day tours and trips I've done. Great on and off the bike. I like that its a Vibram outsole too--same as my Merrell hiking/bouldering shoes. Some people don't like laces, but its never been an issue for me.

Lake MX101 shoes and Time Atac XS pedals. Super comfy shoes (even to walk in), vibram soles, and my cleats are recessed enough to not worry about marking up someones floors. The Atacs have alot of float (I have bad knees).

I wear Shimano RT-50's. They're touring shoes that are light and stiff like road shoes, but with rubber soles and recessed cleats. They're compatable with SPD, so they work perfect with the Frogs I'm addicted to. I like the sandals, but they don't provide enough support for my feet on long rides of over 50 or so miles, and I start getting pains in the feet at about that point. I have to admit, I don't do a lot of hiking in my cycling shoes.
