Hi all,

I have this stove and have used white gas only in it. Last night i started it up with some unleaded gas and it burned fine, athought it was a little smelly. I'm bringing it on a solo 3 week tour and don't feel like buying a gallon of white gas everytime I need 16 oz of fuel. Does anyone have any long term experience with gasoline and the stove? I'm thinking high test may burn a little cleaner.

My experience with gasoline has been that it works fine, but is not as clean burning as coleman fuel, so the jet needs regular cleaning, so be sure to have whatever tools you need to do that.

I used a 442 for several seasons of camping and found it to be a good stove. On two long tours I didn't even carry a fuel bottle - just a little funnel. Great fun to pull up to the local service station and "fill er up" for about 25 cents! Coleman suggests that the generator will not last quite as long if using car fuel but you can pick up a new generator quite cheaply if needed. Car gas is smellier than high test but only when filling, not while burning. I have switched to the Trangia 27 for ease of simmering, stability on rocky ground and wind resistance but would heartily recommend the 442.
