    Volpe Question

Anyone know the widest tire you can fit on a 2006 Bianchi Volpe?

Looks like it could easily support 38s. With fenders. Are you looking for some wider than that? If yes, why?

I've been doing a lot more off road riding than I expected and would really like to put a wider tire on there. I want to know what the max size is and what a good tire is before I go ahead and order one.

Ok. The 2006 Volpe I ride is fitted with Alex Ace tires. I noticed there are a number of mountain bikes for sale on the Internet with some wide tires fitted on this Alex rim, like this one http://www.bikyle.com/MtnClearance.asp (search for Alex Ace...). Seems like it could fit up to 2.1 inch if this catalog is true.

Having said that, I have been out on a number of country roads with loose gravel on the stock 32s. Seemed pretty hefty to me -- and definitely heavy enough :-(

Also, not sure you could fit fenders on a tire this wide.

I was more concerned about chainstay cleareance and fork clearance. I don't use fenders.
