Butterfly bar problem
They hit my knees sometimes (or rather, the sti gearlever does). IT's only if I'm off the saddle and turning, but still I have to move my knees out of the way. Have I got them setup right?

More than likely you will need to purchase a longer stem....that's what happened to us. I bought a zoom adjustable on ebay that extended further forward and allowed me to keep from knocking my knees when climbing a hill.

Thanks for that. I'll need a stem raiser as well, I guess, then, as my stem is short, but high. It's a shame becasue it's comfortable as it is.

I got one for my bars. Lemme see if I can find a pic.
. . . . here it is: http://i7.tinypic.com/260bq4w.jpg |
Sorry that's so big.
Anyway, I had a very short stem on my drop handlebars. This new stem seems to approximate that forward distance (i.e., short) and lift it to a suitable height. Hopefully you can find a stem to suit. If you look at the one in my pic, you will see that the forward distance is not great. I got my stem from St John Street Cycles in England. |
Lolly...What is the intent of the bar ends you have on the forward side? Have they been useful?

I put those there on a whim. I figured they would give me yet another spot for my hands, and variety is good! They are a short verion of bar ends, and they work well on the flats. . . of which there are few where I live. :)

Thanks for the help.
I've fixed the problem, I think (I've not actually been out yet), but I've swapped the bars around so the gap (and the levers, which is what I was banging my knees on) is at the front. the hand positions are about the same, except I now have the levers at the front, furthest away from me, which suits me, as this is where I tend to ride. Oh, and Lolly pop, funilly enough, I added stubby bar ends in about the same place as yours (at the front and towards the centre). I used to have them like that when using flat bars and found them a great help. |
