October,2006 Cycling Mexico

I'm a solo female who's been biking from Canada...in a week I'm going to hit San Diego and I'd love to continue biking through Mexico, or at least part...considering the baja, and then from Mazatlan to?
I'm looking for someone to travel with...i'm nervous about going alone...
Welcome advice from men or women who have gone through mexico, solo or with a group.

Hola Chica!

I will be cycling South America this winter. By chance are you continuing on? If so, perhaps we could meet up in Panama City or Ecuador. I will be biking the Pan-American Highway throughout South America either north to south or south to north. Like you, I am nervous about biking sola in Latin America.

I've cycled solo many times in Mexico. I've never encountered a problem with the locals. I've been down the Pacific coast in Guerrero and Oaxaca on Hwy 200. I've also cycled the Yucatan and Chiapas. Never a problem.

You can also contact Basil at basil@bikemexico.com
He's been running budget bike tours www.bikemexico.com for quite a few years now in Mexico. He lives there most of the time. He can provide you with more uptodate info about your safety concerns. I think its as safe as anywhere else I've been.
