The two shops I hear about the most are Bikes ByKyle and Bean's, both on Rt 30 in the Ardmore area.
I've done a lot of business with CycleFit in Wallingford. Fine shop, ask for Greg and tell him I sent you.
I've rarely seen a touring bike actually in stock anywhere in the Philadelphia area, other than at REI. And when I have, it was one bike, not in my size.

Thanks for the info Rich. I was at REI on sunday and they did have a touring bike. looked like a decent bike but it was the store brand and nothing else to look at. seemed like a decent store, but id like to see more variety. and what i really want is to be able to talk to someone who knows what there doing so i can make the right choice. i think a ride Wallingford sometime soon is in order .

The two Havnoonian (spelling!) brothers have bike shops in the area. One is just off of Blythe and State in Drexel Hill and the other is on Providence Road in Media. To my knowledge there is not business connection between the two.
The Drexel Hill shop is a strictly a bike shop. Think Raleigh is their big line.
The one in Media is a full-line shop and they not only sells Trek and a couple of other lines, but they custom build their own bikes and have an excellent reputation. They will make you anything you want if something off-the-shelf does not work.
Enjoy!!
