Bikes: Raleigh Aspen touring/off-road hybrid, and a Bob Yak trailer. Yak very useful for us car-free types that like to buy lots of beer.

What do you mean by central Europe? Do you mean Germany?

I only tour with Esterbauer Bikeline map books. They are as informative as touring companies, but a fraction of the cost.

The areas I'm interested in are Romania, Croatia, Hungary, etc. I looked at your suggestions for the guide books and they look really good.

if you're definitely interested in a tour group deal then check out the bike tours on responsibletravel.com, I havent gone thru them but they sound interesting- kinda of a clearinghouse for local groups...
worth looking at.

cheers
