marathon plus ?
Well I'm off soon on my trip across Spain, France and Britain and one of the final things I'm still deciding on is tires.
Marathon plus or XR?
90% of the trip will be on road.
I'm reading all these reports about the weight of the marathon plus tires. Is it really a concern when I'm carrying many pounds of weight to have such heavy tires.
Are the Marathon XR tires overkill for road travel?

The XR's will be in stock next week and I will be using them on my mountain and touring bikes. The 26x2 are 595 gms. vs 980 for the marathon plus. That is a lot of weight. The XR's are also folding and I can carry a spare.
Look at the tube weights as you can get tubes that range from 95gms to 180gms.

If you want to be guarenteed that you don't suffer a single flat on your trip, ride with Mara Pluses.

x 3 for the Plus
XR cannot be beaten for gravel roads but if most of your trip is on the road the Plus does roll better so you will not notice the weight as much as the extra effort required for the XR's.
Both are bomb proof.
