I'm not having much luck finding an H500 to replace my old one, but I have seen several other cannondales in my price range. Unfortuneately, I can't find much info about them. The 2 models I'm looking at right now are the SP300, and H300. I know the H300 retailed at $500 or so I believe, H500s retailed at $759, and I can't find any info on SP300s. H500s are 21-speed, aluminum (can't remeber if it was CAD1 or 2 or whatever), but seemed to have an excellent frame. It was slow and the ride wasn't great, but I like the riding position, and after 8k miles on it last year alone, I'm comfortable riding it and satisfied with the quality. My main concern is I don't want a downgrade in speed or frame strength and other components, cause I haul alot of crap and ride alot. I also want something with similar gears to an H500. I'll upgrade the tires and rims, but that's about it. If anyone has info on these cannondale models, or other older (and cheap) american made cannondales I'd appreciate it.
Did you find any information about the sp300? I've got a 2002 and I think it cost around $700. I wasn't and am not an avid rider, but bought it for the 2002 AIDS ride from Minneapolis to Chicago. It was recommended to me because I don't bend enough for a road bike, so I understand what you mean by comfort. I've upgraded with Bontrager wheels, tires, gears, etc. I'm interested in finding a a bike that's more road than hybrid to make my biking easier, but want to make sure it's substantially easier than what I have now. If I can find something that meets the bill, I'll sell mine. However, I may sell the wheels separately since they retail for $800 each. I don't know if this helps you at all, but I hope it does. Feel free to ask anything else about my bike.
