Is this bike OK for a tour?

I'll be doing a five-day supported tour this summer. I was planning on riding the only bike I have -- an '87 Schwinn Traveler road bike (steel frame/double chain ring/27-inch wheels). I won't be hauling much, probably just a trunk bag. Other than proper fit, of course, I'm wondering if there is anything I should be forewarned about riding an older bike?

If you and it work, there should be no problem.
I don't know your bike, but I assume it'sprobably a lot better than the iron maidens they used to ride all over Europe at the turn of the century when there was agreat boom in touring.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

No issues with the bike! I'd go through it and repack bearings, etc. Other than that, no worries, I tour on a Schwinn and have toured on a Huffy class bike (Royce Union) even. Granted, the Huffyish bike wasn't the greatest choice, but it worked surprisingly well!

thanks for the input. I'll plan on having the LBS doa once-over prior to setting sail, just to make sure it's in shape.
