Car free Yellowstone Ride

When Yellowstone roads are cleared in the spring they are closed to cars. I have heard of organized bike ride that goes from West yellowstone to old faithful. Does anyone have information on this ride? I have searched around, but I am not finding anything. Its just a one day organized charity type ride (i think).

Thanks

Years ago I lived in Jackson and rode in Yellowstone in the car-free window. But I was never aware of any organized ride. I heard that the park service eliminated the bikes-only use last year - - supposedly for safety reasons - - but in my opinion just another example of administration over-zealousness.

Note - they only allow biking on the road from West Yelowstone to Mammoth.

The road from Madison Junction to Old Faithful is closed to bicycles in the spring due to a bear management closure. The road can be ridden from West Yellowstone to Mammoth Hot Springs as Jamawani mentioned. There is no organized ride however. West Yellowstone does have a spring cycling tour, but it is not in the Park. Instead, it goes "around the block", which is a 64 mile scenic loop ride which crosses the Continental Divide twice. There is also a fall cycling tour which does go from West Yellowstone to Old Faithful and back, but it is done when the Park is open to vehicles. When the roads close in the fall, you can ride to Old Faithful from Madison Junction. The bear closure is not in place in the fall. Here's a link to the West Yellowstone Chamber of Commerce calendar: https://www.westyellowstonechamber.com/calendar.htm It lists the opening/closing dates, rides, etc. Let me know if you have any questions.

Well, I'm surprised! I've been going into the Park in the spring for years and years and this is the first I've heard about the bear closure. Thanks for the warning! For those who haven't ridden it, the road through Norris is indeed potholed. I'd recommend a mountain or touring bike in the Park instead of a road (racing) bike. It's beautiful in April and the Winnebagoes haven't arrived yet.

Thanks for the information everyone. I think I am going to do the "around the block" ride, and mayby without the cars on my own. Thanks

Well Yellowstone does have a lot of wildlife. Anything can happen and I suppose the Park doesn't want the responsibility of an animal attack.
