Car free Yellowstone Ride
When Yellowstone roads are cleared in the spring they are closed to cars. I have heard of organized bike ride that goes from West yellowstone to old faithful. Does anyone have information on this ride? I have searched around, but I am not finding anything. Its just a one day organized charity type ride (i think).
Thanks

Years ago I lived in Jackson and rode in Yellowstone in the car-free window. But I was never aware of any organized ride. I heard that the park service eliminated the bikes-only use last year - - supposedly for safety reasons - - but in my opinion just another example of administration over-zealousness.

Note - they only allow biking on the road from West Yelowstone to Mammoth.

Well, I'm surprised! I've been going into the Park in the spring for years and years and this is the first I've heard about the bear closure. Thanks for the warning! For those who haven't ridden it, the road through Norris is indeed potholed. I'd recommend a mountain or touring bike in the Park instead of a road (racing) bike. It's beautiful in April and the Winnebagoes haven't arrived yet.

Thanks for the information everyone. I think I am going to do the "around the block" ride, and mayby without the cars on my own. Thanks
