For the couple of guys who are 6'4", how much drop do you have from saddle to bars?

This is not LHT specific.

Measurements are from saddle just above the post to the center of the bars.

Fast (when somebody else rides it) bike: 4 inches.
Recently added long stem and decreased that to 2 inches.

Bike Friday NWT: 2 inches

Univega Touring Bike (with a tall stem): 1 inch

A lot of personal preference in this. I rode that 4 inch drop for 17 years, and was happy with it until recently. In the touring bike department both the NWT and Univega feel fine. I'm not sure that there is one right answer, even for one person.

Let me clarify my question. Since the LHT complete has a clamp on stem, there is limited vertical adjustment available. So when the post is adjusted to the appropriate height, what's the drop between that saddle height and the "stock" height of the bar?

I ask because it looks like the stock stem has a pretty sharp rise, and that the head tube has a little extension.

I'm 6'2", and my saddle is about the same height as the bars on a 60cm.

You can turn the stem over if you're concerned the angle shown in the picture will put the bars up too high/in too close.

I stopped by Freewheeling in Austin today. They have the LHTs in stock for $999. I didn't ask how many they had.

I said it in another post, but seriously try and talk with your local bike shop. My regular LBS was able to knock the complete LHT from 1200 to 950. It makes a big difference to the little guys. I told them myself that I couldn't swing the $300 on loyalty alone, but at least try to work something out. It pays to get your stuff from a local guy if you can. They take a lot more responsibility, it becomes your baby and theirs. The JensonUSA is a great deal, but at least go in to your LBS and state the situation. Jenson isn't going to lose any sleep over it.

MSRP is 930.00, and they always have coupons, just wait for a 10% off one to come up.

If your local bike shop can beat that price, then by all means.

When you're dropping 1k on a bike sometimes it's ok to eat a few bucks. There's no way most small shops can beat that price, but they can come pretty close to matching it. I'd feel a lot better if my local mechanic was vested in my bike than some mail order company. Not that Jenson isn't a great company, but it's not like they're going to go under anytime soon.

Surly is a pretty easy to company for most shops to order from, it's not as though you have to go through some sort of exclusive Surly dealer.

Mine just came in today. Road it home. Very smooth. Very upright, caught me offguard, but very comfy. 950 from LBS after some haggling.

Woohoo, I got mine! On my 54cm frame, the bars are just below the height of the saddle, but could lower them ~2" by removing spacers from headset (put them above the stem or cut the steerer) and flipping the stem.

LBS special ordered it.

www.natsoutdoor.com

The prices on the Treks and Giants ain't great, but here's how the conversation went when I was just speculating about an LHT and wondering how much I'd need to save.

"How much does a Long Haul Trucker complete run?"
"Let me get the book, I'll check."
::time passes as we flip through the QBP book::
"Well, it looks like we get it for $589. Nat will be happy if we make a bit more than $150 from it, so you can have it for $750 or so. Plus probably about $30 shipping."
"Order me a 60cm please."

I don't think he had any idea what the MSRP was, and he probably didn't care, because a $150 profit in your pocket is better than a $350 profit in your imagination.

I've already got someone else in town ready to buy one, too.

Along with the bike, I get free tuneups for a year (par for the course), 25% off bike accessories for 45 days, and 10% off car racks. So naturally I've been hitting up the accessories section pretty hard.

It's not as good as it sounds, though--it was $837 with tax and a can of frame saver.
