Around Lake Ontario route?
I am planning to tour around Lake Ontario in 8 days this summer and would appreciate any advice or ideas about the New York state part of the trip. This will be a camping and motel trip, I still like a soft bed every now and then. In particular I am looking for a good route through Rochester. I am planning on going counter clockwise and crossing at the Queenston Lewiston bridge into the US if I can, following the Seaway Trail along the lake and then crossing again at Wolfe Island ferry back into Ontario. I don't know the exact distance but I think it to be about 1000km. Another option would be to follow the Erie Canal for some of the trip. I am still just in the planning stage so none of this is final and can be altered if I get some better suggestions.

i grew up in a rural town east of Rochester and went to grad school in rochester.
from the buffalo area, not sure exactly where this starts,
you can take the Canalway trail route east for about 160 km.
this trail goes thru rochester and ends just before palmyra. in palmyra
get on rt 31 east, then in newark (rt 88) or in lyons (rt 14), go north to route 104,
follow rt 104 east to rt 3 (this is north, along the eastern end of lake ontario).
good luck.

When I cycled around Lake Ontario I used the Round Lake Ontario book by Harvey Botzman. His directions through Rochester worked well.
