    Disenchanted with Schwalbe Marathons...

    I used to ride Continental Top Touring 2000 (700x37) tires and found them to be smooth-riding and reasonably durable. For me, they were the ideal tire, but they are no longer available. I had read many good things about Schwalbe Marathon tires, so I bought a couple ordinary, plain-jane Marathons (not the plus/supreme/slick/cross/whatever versions) in the 700x32 size. They are durable and have been flat-free..., but they ride like they're made of solid rubber. They just don't seem to soak up the road like the TT2000's did. Maybe it's just that I'm riding down a couple sizes, but I'm a little disappointed in the Schwalbe tires. Have any of you former TT2000 devotees found a suitable replacement? I'd like to hear about them. Thanks.

    Disenchanted with Schwalbe Marathons...

    I've found the Schwalbes ride much smoother at a lower pressure.

    Try lowering pressure so that sidewalls have some visible deflection. Weighing ~190lb, I'm running about 65 psi (on 37's) and bike feels better on the flats as well as 40+mph downhills than when I kept pumping tires up to the max like an ex-racer.

    We have the 700x35 Slicks (which are actually 700x37) on the tandem. We could probably arrange a swap if you want to see if the fatter ones ride better.

    why don't you try the Continental "Contact" that pretty much replaces the TT2000?

    I've been fond of Panaracer T-Servs though. ride a lot like TT2000's.

    Bingo!

    While I like to ride hard tires, you can go really low on fatter tires, and you can go slightly low without even knowing it, and that will feel much smother, like the difference between 95 and 85. I have done 40 miles of soft peastone with my marathon 1.5 set around 25 pounds. I just kept letting out air until I got floatation, and while I could tell I needed to baby things like the small curbs, I had no idea I had 25 pounds in them until I refilled them. I like 1.5s, then are fast when hard and very versatile.

    Hi,
    next weekend I am going to try Marathon Racers. If they don't work
    out I am going to try the Marathon Supremes if they'll fit my frame.

    Go to the Schwalbe website and take a look at the Supreme, looks like
    a heck of a tire to me.

    My Racer is advertised as a 30 but says 28c on the side of the tire. So I would suggest trying the 40c, it will prob be the same size as your old tire, and give
    a similar ride, but weigh a lot less.

    I used to ride Conti TT in 32 and find that the Marathon 28 has a similar profile. The sidewall may be a bit tougher and less flexable.

    Thanks for the help. I'll just go up a couple sizes and ride on 700x37's (as before). As mentioned above, I'm hoping the added volume and lower tire pressures will smooth out the road. Thanks again.
