difference in terry liberator
I see performance has the Terry liberators on sale. I'v been wanting to try one. Is there a big difference in the regular liberator
http://www.performancebike.com/shop/...estore_ID=1096 Weight: 365g Rails: FeC Alloy Dimensions: L= 10.4" W=6.6" Cover: Leather and the cite saddle http://www.performancebike.com/shop/....cfm?sku=14020 Weight: 443g Rails: Chromoly Dimensions: L= 10.5" W= 6.5" Cover: Vinyl I see the leather one weighs less but the deminsions are about the same the biggestt differance may be the rails. FeCalloy vs chromoly. I am not all that concerened with the weight difference. I just need something a little better then the stock sadle on my 520 or the e3foam I bought a month ago but have not fell in love with. Money is tight as I bvought fenders when i got the e3foam and the wife aint real happy i'm looking again. I figgure the $19.99 cite will be an easier sell. tire question later. Any feed back on these saddles appreciated. Coy Boy |

I've used a Terry Liberator for a couple of long tours, and I've been very satisfied. It has a leather cover -- it's thin leather (not like a Brooks), but leather nonetheless. I don't believe any human synthetic can come close to the breathability and feel of leather. In that price range anyway. I think you'd notice the claminess of vinyl after 40 miles. That's basically a one-sided opinion, however, cuz I don't have a vinyl Liberator to compare. -- Mark |
Thanks Mark, I've been looking at the Terry site and it list the leather liberator for touring and the cite for recreational riding. it is hard to tell from the pics but the nose section looks wider on the cite. It is already pretty wide on the leather one. a few of the reviews on MTB siid it was wide and rubbed the thighs. If I was planning on longer rides I would definatly consider bitting the bullet and going for the leather one. I can see where the leather would be better in hot weater and longer rides. Still gota talk the wife into letting me order it by tomorrow. Or I may just get the tires and padded underwear and wait for another sale. I dont have any flats yet but there are several cuts in my borenteger (sp?) race lites. those 35s might be softer riding as a bonus. not much but every little bit helps.

I tried the leather for a very short time and you are right, the nose is wider, not by much, but enough to bother me. It felt like a charley horse or the begining of a cramp up in my groin. It also heated up pretty fast ( ten miles) so it didn't work for me at all. I have a brooks B17 with only 1300 miles on it that I'm still trying to break in. I'm only 66, 67 in a few months and I think it should be broke in by the time I'm 70, if not I'll give it to you.

I'm going to order the Cite saddle because this looks like a new concept with suspension built into the saddle.
I have the Terry Liberator and a suspension seat post for extra comfort. I sat on the Trek 520 saddle and it's like sitting on a rock. |
I can't guarantee it's the same one, but I bought my Terry Liberator from Performance two years ago. It's synthetic and the stitching is worthy of the low price, BUT it's comfy to me and despite it's looks I have 2500 miles on it and expect another 2500 without complaint.
