Bad News for Chesapeake Riders
The Annapolis to Kent Island bus has been eliminated - effective July 1.

This really sucks for bike riders trying to get across Chesapeake Bay.
Maryland DOT denies any necessity to provide alternative options.
On their website they say they "may" transport bikes as time and personnel permit.
Only a courtesy - they say.
Well, if they got one dime of federal money under ISTEA -
Or if they get a dime from TES-21 - then it is a REQUIREMENT!!!
I hate it that transportation agencies in so many states are unresponsive.
Build 10 more lanes for cars - and make cyclists pay $80 for a taxi.
I really fear that someone is going to have to sue -
And hold up federal highway money for some important project.
The public will hate the cyclists - but what can one do?
Alaska is totally unresponsive concerning access thru the Whittier Tunnel.
(They get more federal $$$ than anyone on a per capita basis.)
Kentucky and Tennessee closed Cumberland Gap when they built the new tunnel.
(Guess what? Bikes are banned in the tunnel.)
Mississippi and Louisiana closed the Old US 80 Bridge in Vicksburg.
(Bikes aren't permitted on the I-20 bridge.)

DOTs - screw 'em all.
I hope they choke on the fumes from $10 per gallon gas.

I agree with you about the whole thing, I live in howard county and I would love to have some bike lanes, but haven't seen anything done about that. If you want to make lemonade, maybe there is an opportunity for a service? I could see a couple of people and pickups with bike mounts could help both cyclists across and make a bit of money on the side. Of course, if you want to be really noble, you could donate all profits to a bike project like www.velocipedebikeproject.org. I live closer to Baltimore, otherwise i might be interested.
