Off tomorrow!

Hey folks,
Been quiet for a while, but I'm off on a hopefully close to a year long tour. Flying out to LA tomorrow, building up the bike that was shipped there, buy a tent/hammock and I'm off East bound.

Advice, comments, everything - welcome, especially advice.
Young, stupid, inexperienced, alone... advice is good.

Whoo-Hoo!!!!

Have an incredible trip!
With a tailwind every day. Never a mosquito.
Swedish massage at the top of every mountain.
And lots of chocolate.

Keep us posted.
Best - J

Well, I should be off pedalling in an hour or so. Met a really nice guy at Performance Bike in Ventura who put me up for the night at his place. Random kindness. Really needed it coz I was up real early to get a flight and was up all day after that getting from Jersey to Ventura, CA. Been awake for about 20 hours when I wanted to start biking out to the nearby State Park... not a good idea. Will update the journal when got some time to sit down, this afternoon most probably. Happy memorial day everyone.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Wow, great trip...glad the Americans are treating you kindly! (Sometimes we get a bad rap )

The Mohave's heating up, but it could be a lot worse...at least you're not traveling in July/August. You'll like the Joshua trees.

I think many of us will be vicariously watching your progress. Damn, I wish I was fresh out of school again!

Have fun and keep in touch. When are you planning on coming through southern Europe and Turkey? We may well cross paths!

I MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IT! 293 days. I didn't lose a limb or break a bone.

LHT is such a silly bike. It looks like a junk on wheels now only after one tour. Rusting, bent fork, nearly rounded jockey wheels and chainrings etc etc. I really have to talk to QC guys at Surly. Either way, it made it. Lots of good things about it. Yes, thats the LHT Complete.

Its been crazy the past few days. I'm struggling to adapt to living in a house. The walls terrify me. At least the dog knows what sleeping outside is like so I talk to it all the time. (Don;t worry, I'm not mad, I just like me dog thats all)

Am working on journal. Its hard to write when there's no cycling to do tomorrow. Am working full time on the charity we started now. We'll try to hit about 500k USD. Its going to be tough, but I'll try.

Oooh, also, I shared me ride the last 3 days with 70 odd other folks and they LUVED IT. The students are talking about forming a cycling club whether the teachers like it or not and we got a lot of good feedback on how being on a bike and seeing places was awesome. I hope they get addicted to sumthing.

I learned how to patch a tube the right way on the second to last day of my ride!!!! Serious. I've been putting the wrong side of the patch on all this time. How is there not an instructional video on that here?

And I put up a lot of junk in this post, but really I just wanted to thank you folks for helping me complete my first tour.

Oh, and ma says thanks too. Shes been worried. I still wonder why.

I had been avidly reading your journal, it was a pleasure to read. Glad you made it and all in one piece. Congratulations on a wild ride. Wishing you the best good fortune for your future endeavours and the charity—you crazy guy, you.
