Bikes: This list got too long: several ‘bents, an urban utility e-bike, and a dahon D7 that my daughter has absconded with.

I am pretty much packed. A pair of shorts, a second pair of shorts with zip off legs, a hammock, a length of rope, rain jacket. basic food stuff (thermos, messkit) a jacket for rain.

I have never been bicycle touring before so this will be a bit of an adventure for me.

had all knids of prbs witht eh police in kasgar, urumchi and other towns when trying to get off the beatin track!

good luck

Not xinjang, I am living in Xinyang

And, My tour ran into a snag. Once you get out of Henan Province a lot of G312 has been replaced with expressway. I got bored riding on it and realizing that I had hundreds of kilometers of the same in front of me.

I decided to head back;but, I still got several good days of riding around the Chinese countryside. And yes, one night I had trouble because they thought I was a "spy." I had a Chinese friend call and calm people down, I still lost some pictures.

Sorry, mixed the two places up... how silly of me.

I had tons of problems with the authorities thinking I was spying.. not the locals, but I do not speak Chinese so I have no idea what the locals were saying... cept in Kasgar where my basic Turkish helped me talk to Uighurs... they just kept saying tha tthey hat ethe Chinese if the topic came up... Trust me, Itried to avoid that topic.

Well glad you got to do some cycling round the coutnryside.. sounds like fun.

I am off to Prague next week from here in Budapest.... not as exoctic as China but fun none the less.

Enjoy your stay in China, peddle safely.
