naff though i know it is i always find myself hollering/whispering "the mnountain song" by jane's addiction as i cling on for grim death on big downhills.

also, after a recent tour with my bro and his wife in western australia they were driving me out to the airport and the aforementioned queen song "bicycle" came over the radio and we all cracked up laughing. "road to nowhere" pops into my head from time to time as well.

Frank Sinatra's Summer Wind entered my head as I cycled off the ferry at Bastia (Corsica) on a warm evening. It never left.

Maybe this belongs on the Commuting thread ('cause it was in my head while grinding up a hill on the way to work the other day). Perhaps 'tis not suitable for long tours though. There is something about the rhythm of the song that goes well with pedaling (to me anyway). Chumbawamba...

Strauss' 'Blue Danube'. Don't really know why, but it's nice.
Black Sabbath's 'Iron Man' comes to mind sometimes, when I'm pedaling up up up up while children in mini-vans and RV's gawk at me as they drive past.
Harry Nilsson's 'Everybody's Talkin'' comes to mind when I'm traveling.

Carole King's So Far Away and Home Again
Stan Getz's Here's That Rainy Day
Dobie Gray's Drift Away
Added: Dang, I see I've already posted here....the two Carole King songs. If forgetful, at least I'm consistent.

Procrastinateur supreme
Robert Frost's poem "Stopping By Woods..." ... captured the tension between the desire to linger in pleasant spots and the need to get down the road.
+1 x10e!
Perfect! The essence of touring. The myriad of potential future directions vs. the awareness that you eill choose only one. Too much planning and goal orientated thought on the part of many tourists keeps this sensibility a rare one indeed.

"Carolina In My Mind" James Taylor
Dark and silent late last night
I think I might have heard the highway call
Geese in flight and dogs that bite
Signs that might be omens say I'm going, going
I'm gone to Carolina in my mind
Dark and silent late last night
I think I might have heard the highway call
Geese in flight and dogs that bite
Signs that might be omens say I'm going, going
I'm gone to Carolina in my mind

"B*****s Ain't S***" by Dr. Dre.
Just kidding.
"Bees" by Caribou is a pretty good on-the-road song. It even has sirens so well mixed you'll be checking behind you to see where they're coming from.

I cannot believe no one has mentioned this yet:
"Mobile" by The Who.
It is the absolute best song for hopping on and going anywhere anytime.

Oh, I'm so glad you wrote this. I was just going through the thread to make sure nobody had already posted this. So true...and I don't even like Bob Seger!
