I have a Brooks B17 on my Bianchi, installed several weeks ago. When I adjusted the saddle I noticed the black paint or coating on the rails was coming off in flakes. I don't really care what the underside of my saddle looks like but I wonder if this opens up possibility of rust. Anyone else run into this?

I haven't had this happen to mine yet and mine is about 15 years old. I would be concern about rust if the rail is made of steel and not TI. I would do two things depending on how long you had the saddle. 1) call the manufacture if it's under warranty and have them deal with it; or 2) just paint it yourself.

If you choose to paint it you will need to get some fine emery paper to roughen up the paint with 80 to 100 grit till all the flake off areas are smoothed and the metal where the flakes came off is shiny, wipe off the rail so as not to leave in paint or sand residue. Then mask the saddle off so as not to get paint on the leather and spray on black enamel paint.

I'm no pro at painting so if my painting advice is not good someone will catch it and correct it. I've only done lawn furniture this way and some other around the house tibbits. With the lawn furniture I removed all the paint, then applied a primer which I very lighty sanded, then applied the paint. After 2 years it's still holding up! I guess I got lucky!!

You could just brush the paint on, but brushing may look bad. Also with round shapes if you spray you need to do fast light multiable coats or you will get runs in the paint. I found this out the hard way on my lawn furniture that had round shape tubes and the first chair I did ran like crazy, thus I had to restrip that chair.
