Surly LHT

Anyone know when Surly will release the next round of LHT Complete Bicycles to shops?

Supposed to be on the trucks right now. The LBS says my LHT will be ready to be picked up this weekend. However, note that many of the LTH's arriving are already spoken for. I'd call as soon as possible if you have not already done so.

Anyone know when Surly will release a new frame color? Neither the Utility Blue nor the Black Cherry Pearl appeal to me. That Sage Green color was the best.

Actually, I never bothered to ask the color. Are you saying the ones currently being sent out are not the puke green?

I don't know for sure. But the Surly web site says the complete bike only comes in Utility Blue, which appears to be a sort of flat faded grey-blue color. Not attractive to me. See it here: http://www.surlybikes.com/lht_comp.html

If you buy a frame, you can get Utility Blue or Black Cherry Pearl, which you can see at the top of this page: http://www.surlybikes.com/longhaul.html

I much prefer the puke green, but I think it is really called Sage green. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be offered anymore.

If they still had the green I would buy it.

The blue and red, for me are wrong on a tour the world, pack-it in kind of bike.

My LBS (city bikes in DC) just received four LHT's, mine, plus three that were not already spoken for.

The bike seems as spec'd on the surly web page, except that it is running 700x37 continental contacts. Not a bad tire, but not the smoothest of rides, and I don't think they have kevlar.

I'll take it out tomorrow morning for a 25-mile workout.

I originally ordered a LHT-Complete back in May or so, to be delivered in June. Ultimately Surly was unable to deliver the complete, as they had "overbooked" as they say in the airline industry. My LBS just ordered a frame/fork and built mine themselves using either the same or one-better grade of components. They held the price to what we agreed on for the complete, so I was OK with that. Actually it turned out better for me - the LBS knew I was not going to use the bike for touring, but instead as a kind of "traditional-throwback" road bike, so they put on 700 x 28 tires. I am terrifically happy with the bike. The frame/fork was only available in my size in the utility blue - I would have preferred the black cherry, and I guess I would have been OK with the sage green as well. Anything but pink, I guess. Here's a pic:

The only thing I may change is to go with a little less extreme of a stem - I could probably be OK if the bars were even with the saddle, or even slightly lower. The LBS owner that spec'ed it out for my 55 year old carcass didn't think I was so flexible, I guess.

OK, I give up! With the utility blue frame, what would look best? Antique brown, honey brown, or black?

The honey brown is sweet on the utility blue.

Personally I think a black Flyer looks best on the LHT.

Nothing like A Honey B17 on a Sage LHT with silver parts.

I would go with antique brown with the blue frame. Also change the handlebar tape to antique brown leather tape.

I decided to go with an antique brown Flyer Special and espresso elk sewn on bar wrap from Velo Orange. Add Cody's wood fenders and it should be sweet!

I'm waiting to my antique brown Flyer Special to arrive.
Can you link to the espresso elk sewn on bar wrap?
Tnx

Here's a link to Velo Orange's retail site. You'll find it under handlebar covers, et al <g> on the left. They have TONS of cool stuff. I also got one of the brass bells and a drilled and taped head set spacer that it'll screw into. My bike may end up being 400 pounds, but it'll look and ride sweet <g>.

Brianmcg123,
Is that a copper bell on your frame? I've been looking all over for it. I can find brass bells everywher, but copper bells are nowhere to be found. Where did you get yours?

As you see the colors don't match. I will search for a bar tape made from leather color antique brown.
The honey flyer will match the elk leather.

They haven't sold LHT's in sage green for over a year. The complete bikes only come in one colour - which for the moment is utility blue.

I don't really love the current colours, but I heard the LHT might get a new green colour for 2008, but not the same sage green.

No matter what the colour they are nice bikes.

Duppie

It is the Japanese Brass bell mounted to a 1cm spacer from Velo-Orange.

I was actually pretty disappointed that I could not get a sage green LHT when I bought mine. I wanted to add nothing but black components and the Flyer saddle and make it look like an old army jeep a-la MASH 4077.

Kind of like this one, but I wanted to get some custom stikcers that said M*A*S*H 4077 and put them on the seat tube.

We should campaign to bring the sage green back. Hmm.. Maybe not, makes the ones that were built more desirable. Actually to powdercoat a F/F around here is about $100 so you could have any color you wanted.

The elkhide bar wrap comes in multiple colors. The one in the posted picture is the one that matches honey. Espresso is the color VO remommends for matching the brown saddle pictured. It's pretty close.
